One of the biggest names in late-night television has reportedly been booted from jury selection in an upcoming New York crypto trial.
According to an ABC report, David Letterman, identified as “Juror 16” in the selection process, has been told that he will not be selected for a 12-person jury in an imminent crypto fraud trial.
According to the report, the television personality light-heartedly joked his way through the selection process, even telling the presiding judge that the comedian is a resident of Hartford, Connecticut, instead of New York City, where the trial is taking place.
When the judge asked if Letterman had a spouse or significant other, the comedian responded:
“I’ve had both. Currently, I just have the spouse.”
Letterman was struck from the jury selection after the last round of questioning, before the jury was sworn in.
While the details of the crypto fraud case in question have yet to be revealed to the public, a recent survey from Chainalysis revealed that pig butchering scams are the most prevalent crypto scams in 2024 — no laughing matter.
“Pig butchering is the largest revenue-generating scam type YTD (year to date). One Myanmar-based scam compound first observed on-chain in 2022 has netted at least $101.22 million so far this year.”
