A new guaranteed income program is preparing to hand millions of dollars to a select group of families in Colorado.
Boulder County says it’s launching a direct cash assistance program known as Nurturing Futures to help families with young children.
The guaranteed income program, which will be managed by the Boulder County Department of Human Services (BCHS), will dish out $5.22 million to households, no strings attached.
“The program provides money to qualifying households to help with essentials like food, a place to live, going to the doctor, childcare, or other supports the family needs…
The goal of Nurturing Futures is to make things easier for parents so they can focus on taking care of their children’s needs. Nurturing Futures will provide 725 low-income families with $300 each month to use however they choose for two years. By helping families today, we’re investing in a better future for communities across Boulder County.”
To qualify, applicants are required to have at least one child under the age of four, with a family income under 30% of Area Median Income (AMI).
The application process is open until August 27th and according to Axios, the program will kick off in October.
